Home is where the art is

Contemporary oil painter Anne Grandin, who shows her paintings at various galleries on and off the Island, hosts an open studio evening at her home on August 16 from 4 to 8 pm. Ms. Grandin paints scenes on canvas and on wood (boxes, cabinets, etc.). Her paintings reflect the Native American tradition of connecting sky, land, and sea. In good company

The Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown features the watercolors of Sandra Lothrop, including her whimsical paintings of Vineyard water scenes, along with the work of artists Rosali Ripaldi Shane, Fred and Harry Messersmith, Sharon Rosenfeld Scott, Ned Reade, Ann Howes, and Ben Cabot. Floor model

Island artist Molly Lesnikowski returns to Abode on Aug. 11 with a showing of her canvas floor carpets. Meet the artist at the gallery from 11 am to 3 pm, and at an opening reception from 7 to 9 pm that night. The show runs through September. 42 Circuit Ave. in Oak Bluffs. Call (508) 696-7600.

Newcomer

The latest entry in the Edgartown fine art scene is The Fisher Gallery, on the Vineyard Haven-Edgartown Road. The gallery is featuring Island native Brandon Fisher's oil seascapes and still lifes through August. Pane relief

This month, Island artist Barney Zeitz opens his home studio to display a 15-by 17-foot leaded glass installation before it is installed at the Center at Maple Groves in Queens, New York. The studio, at 67 Deer Hill Rd. off State Rd. in Vineyard Haven, is open every Wednesday in August, from 2 to 5 pm. Call (508) 693-9421.
